The
resources listed here are things that I've found useful in working
with log home clients and writing about log homes. You'll
notice that not all of them are specific to log construction.
However, I've included them because I believe they contain
information that can be especially useful in planning and managing a
log home project. These are made available through our
co-operative arrangement with Amazon.com. Clicking on the
title or image will take you directly to Amazon.com, where you will
find complete details and online ordering.
Description: A test of good design for a log home is that it
fits the lifestyle of the people who live in it. Too often,
people spend money on features that may look good, but add little
to quality of life. Discover why bigger is not always better
and how to design a home that not only fits your lifestyle but may
be gentler on your pocketbook, too.
Description: Sarah Susanka's first book, The Not So Big
House has become a runaway best-seller in home design.
This follow-up book showcases actual home designs based on the
"Not So Big" principles and discusses what makes them
work.
Description: Log Home Living is the patriarch of home
magazines and the only monthly publication devoted exclusively to
log homes. I've been a Contributing Editor there for over ten
years and know how hard they work to put together a good
publication. Use it for design ideas and for planning.
It features more information on how-to than the other
publications.--Jim Cooper
Description: Log Homes Illustrated is a bi-monthly
publication with editorial content similar to Log Home Living.
It also tends to include smaller companies that sometimes don't show
up in the other publications. You can occasionally find my by-line
on how-to features here, also. --Jim Cooper
